Foodie & Markets
Taste the flavours of Porto, from the restored Bolhão market and an Art Nouveau grocer to the Belle Époque Majestic Café, the city's legendary francesinha, a century-old bakery and a grand iron market hall.
- Mercado do Bolhão — Begin at the Mercado do Bolhão, Porto's grand two-storey market from 1914, recently restored. Stalls overflow with fresh fish, smoked meats, olives, flowers and bacalhau (salt cod).
- Pérola do Bolhão — The Pérola do Bolhão is a jewel of an Art Nouveau grocery from 1917, its facade painted with two elegant female figures. Inside it still sells coffee, dried fruit and port.
- Majestic Café Porto — The Majestic Café, opened in 1921, is Porto's most beautiful Belle Époque café — all carved wood, mirrors and leather. J.K. Rowling is said to have written here.
